~ ようこそ! ~
Welcome to Cal Animage Epsilon at UC Irvine! To put it simply, "Anime Club" is a local gathering of anime enthusiasts. It was established in the early 90s and has been going strong ever since. We watch specific shows every week, go out to dinner after every meeting to discuss our latest favorite shows, and occasionally hold special events and outings. Whether you are a casual fan or an otaku, this club is for you! It is not mandatory to register as a member; you can simply show up to any meeting at any time at your own leisure.
Be sure to check out our club's forums!

Updates & News
2/4/2010 - We're starting three new shows this week to replace K-On, CANAAN, and Bakemonogatari. They are Nyan Koi!, Ga Rei Zero, and Mononoke. Their descriptions are below! We're still also watching Lovely Complex, Umineko, and 07-Ghost.
- Nyan Koi - Junpei Kōsaka is a second-year high school student who despises cats and has an allergy to them. It just so happens that his high school crush is Kaede Mizuno, a girl who adores cats. One day, while walking home from school, Junpei kicks an empty can and unfortunately beans the local neko-jizō-sama (guardian deity of cats). He finds he can now understand what cats are saying, including his family's own ill-tempered cat, Nyamusasu. However, if he does not grant 100 wishes from cats, he will turn into cat himself.
- Ga Rei Zero - The Japanese Ministry of Defense has an anti-paranormal special forces group called the Paranormal Disaster Countermeasure Headquarters. They're the ones responsible to protect Japanese soil and its people from supernatural and paranormal events. However, things didn't go so well in one of their missions, which leads to intervention by the Ministry of Enviroment's Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division after the PDCH has sustained large numbers of casualties battling demons.
- Mononoke - "Mononoke" continues the story of the medicine seller from the "Bakeneko" arc of "Ayakashi," as he continues to face various dangerous spirits.
We also had a blast at karaoke this past weekend - about 15 people came! If you would like to see some photos, you can check them out here on our forums.
1/23/2010 - We hope everyone is enjoying this quarter so far because we are about to make it even better! Cal Animage Epsilon will be going to Max Karaoke in Torrance this upcoming Saturday (Jan. 30th) for some fun anime singing! We will most likely be there for a two-hour session, which will cost around $16.50 per person. Afterward we will also grab a bite at the Japanese Mitsuwa Marketplace. So bring enough money to enjoy the trip!
If you are interested in attending please respond to this forum thread and tell us if you will need a ride or if you can drive others. The more that can drive, the more that can go, and the more fun we can have together as a club!
We will be meeting by the flagpoles at 11:45 AM to arrange rides for everyone, depart at around 12:15 PM, and arrive at our destination after 1:00 PM. We will leave to return home, at the latest, around 6:00 PM. We hope to see you all there! Remember, you must respond to this message on our forums or we may not be able to provide you with transportation on the day of the event.
1/22/2010 - Check out our new forum and be sure to sign up! Isn't it nice and clean compared to the old, ugly one? :D
1/14/2010 - In this week's meeting we have a little suprise for everyone. We want you and your vote to allow us to shape the club, so come in and assist in giving the club a brighter future.
1/4/2010 - Welcome to the new year! This quarter we will be meeting in HG 1800 for our showings, which is located in the lecture hall behind the new Humanities Gateway building. As usual, the showings will go from 7:00 to 10:00 PM and we will be going out to eat afterwards at Norm's Restaurant in Costa Mesa. Rides to the restaurant will be provided depending on how many people can drive and how much room is available. Our shows remain unchanged from last quarter, though we will be starting new ones around week 4 when the shows from the previous quarter end. Our location and schedule are posted below. We invite you to visit our club - it's free, fun, and full of fans!
- K-ON! (Light Music Club) - It's Yui Hirasawa's first year in high school, and she's eagerly searching for a club to join. At the same time, Ritsu Tainaka, a drummer, and her friend Mio Akiyama, a bass player, are desperately trying to save the school's light music club, which is about to be disbanded due to lack of members. They manage to recruit Tsumugi Kotobuki to play the keyboard, meaning they only need one more member to get the club running again. Yui joins, thinking it will be an easy experience for her to play the castanets, the only instrument she knows. However, the other members think their new addition is actually a guitar prodigy...
- Lovely Complex - Risa Koizumi, taller than the average girl, and Atsushi Ootani, shorter than the average guy - their constant bickering and comical love-hate relationship is well-known throughout the school. They act similarly and love the same music, and their friendship is full of laughing, shouting at each other, and of course, lots of jokes about one another's height. But when Risa notices her feelings for Ootani growing, she's worried. She doesn't know if he can ever see her as more than a friend. With her friends rooting for her, she struggles to make him see how she feels about him, and that a romantic relationship between a tall girl and a short guy can work. Oblivious Ootani doesn't make things easy for her, but she stubbornly perseveres in her own unconventional way, determined for her feelings to get through to him, and finally be returned. If only she could do it without driving herself and everyone else crazy in the process...
