    CAO Updates:

    White Elephant
Our last general meeting of the quarter will be on Monday, November 28, 2011, and to get
into the season we will be playing a game of White Elephant for Christmas.
-White elephant is a gift exchange played between a group of people.
Each person brings a gift (the max limit is $1). In order to play the
game each person picks out a number from a hat and the person with the
last number or after the first person can choose to keep their gift or
take it from another person. Another rule is, we will not be opening
our gifts until everyone has one. So think of something clever!

    Cam Fam Toy Drive
    - The Cambodian Family Organization will be holding a toy drive for
underprivileged kids so if you would like to support them please
donate a brand new/unused toy on Monday that is at least $7-$10. Our
club will be using our club funds to buy some new toys for the kids as well.

    Raffle Prizes
-Remember to bring your raffle tickets to the meeting on Monday
because we will be giving out prizes :)

On December 16, 2011: Cam Fam Toy Drive Volunteers
-This is an opportunity for any members who would like to volunteer
for the season. With the toy drive Cam Fam will also need volunteers
to pack and wrap toys for the kids. If you are interested let the
    board members know!

On December 16, 2011: CSS Christmas Party
-CSS from Cal State Long Beach will be holding a Christmas Party at
Grand Paradise from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets are $25 per person but if you
go in a group, getting a table will be much cheaper. So also inform
board members if you would like to go.

    November 13, 2011
For this upcoming meeting we will be having a guest speaker - Linda Sok from The Cambodian Family to talk about how to get involved within our community. We've been in school for about 7-8 weeks now and it's time to learn how to spread our goodness to the greater community, so
let's learn how! :) Did you also see that we will be having free food?? Hope to see you all there!

    The Cambodian Family:
"The mission of The Cambodian Family is to promote social health. We
do this by providing opportunities for refugee and immigrant families
to develop the knowledge, skills, and desires for creating health and

This week's meeting we will be making a backdrop for our booth for Rainbow Fest! We will definitely need help decorating, drawing, painting and all that artistic stuff. As a club on campus we want to do a good job in representing our club and showing what CAO is all about. And did I mention that we can win a prize for having the best backdrop? Who doesn't like winning?!? With your help we will also have free food just for those who come out. Come out to help and EAT! Hope to see you all there!

    Hi CAO Members!

So last week we shared our baby pictures, talked about our childhood memories and got to know each other a little more. This week our meeting will be based on learning our ABC's and 123's. Not just the basic alphabets but learning how to write some letters in Cambodian Script. Sounds a little tough but it's just like learning how to write all over again! Come out for this great cultural lesson.

Midterms are coming up and I bet the last thing you're thinking about is all the food you have to stack up on right? Because I know you're all set on just studying until you can't study anymore. Luckily this week's meeting is based on Food: Cambodian food. During our meeting, VP Monica Sar will be teaching us how to make papaya salad (bok la'hong), one of the many cultural lessons we'll have this year. Sounds so good right? But there's going to be even more food. FREE FOOD. Our after event will be hosted at the CAO house and dinner will be Cambodian Hot Pot (Yao-Haun). Come out and enjoy all this free food
and the company of the rest of the CAO members.

*Note: You are welcomed to bring more food!

    Hello CAO and fellow supporters,
We are currently in Phnom Penh and in the beginning of the trip, we  went to Mondolkiri for 3 days and 2 nights. Yesterday we went to Kompong Chnang to visit a school and clinic. We donated library books, rulers, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, mats, maps, and two bookshelves to the  school as well as a laptop and bandages to the clinic. They were also  kind enough to treat us to lunch. I will keep you posted on our next  adventures! :D
