Our Pledge I pledge to uphold the objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill towards others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities and the abilities of all people, and to dedicate myself to the realization of mankind's potential. Local Level
UCI Circle K frequents community service projects all over. On a weekly basis we volunteer at Working Wardrobes, the Early Literacy Program, Think Together, Hemopets and Someone Cares Soup Kitchen on weekdays. During Weekends, projects vary even more. We regularly volunteer in Upper Newport Bay's 2nd Sunday events focusing on habitat restoration, as well as helping out at the OC Food Bank, various marathons and runs, on top of any other events that need help in the area. Check out our CALENDAR and our UCI CKI Events Page, for upcoming service projects, fundraisers and socials! For the 2012-2013 year, we are proud to present: Sarina Saldana, UC Irvine Circle K President.
UC Irvine Circle K IP President's Message: All my expectations have been exceeded because of the amazing board and all the members. With over 264 members, we are the largest Circle K club in the world bringing in hundreds upon hundreds of community service hours per month. It is truly an honor to be the president of UCI's Circle K because of all the amazing people who are in it. This club is unlike any other club because we are a family who wants to do community service. We all want to help make a difference in a better way. No one is here because he/she has to be here, but because he/she wants to be here. This excitement, dedication, and enthusiasm that I see in all of you is something I wish the whole world could experience. There is nothing else like it, to see everyone so happy because they are helping out the community around them while making lifelong friendships. What I've noticed is that every Tuesday night, even though there are midterms to study for, papers to write, books to read, websites to code, pictures to paint, anything, I still see so many of you come out to our meetings. That just proves to me how much you all enjoy the community service, and enjoy the friendships you've made. You make me feel so confident, so proud, so happy, and so amazed of being UCI's President, and I thank you for all of this. Over the past few years in college, I have learned so many things especially from being in Circle K. I have learned how to speak in front of a large crowd, how to make a milkshake, how to change settings on a DSLR, how to build a strong relationship with my peers and mentors, how to effectively plant a tree, how to paint a house, how to manage my time, how to discipline myself, the list is endless! Thank you for teaching me all of this, and I hope you can experience and learn as much as I did from being a part of Circle K. If there is anything I would ask you to do, it would be to ask yourself every morning these two questions. 1. What made you get up this morning? and 2. What are you passionate about? You may not know the answer the first time, or the second, or even the fiftieth time, but I guarantee you, you will find the answer, and once you do, don't lose sight of what you are passionate about, and what your goal is. One of my mentors, Prany Sananikone, shared with me his wisdom, and told me that it doesn't matter what path you take. As long as you do not lose sight of your goal, you will achieve it, and you will succeed in life. Most of all, enjoy your life, do what you love, and be yourself. Thank you for being a part of this amazing family in Circle K, and giving me the opportunity to be your President. Thank you! Divisional Level
Beyond our own campus, UCI Circle K is part of the Magic Kingdom Division which comprises of 7 other schools: CSU Fullerton, Chapman University, Irvine Valley College, Orange Coast College, Saddleback College, Whittier College, and Santa Ana College. Together as a division, Circle Ks attend events together, as well as each others meetings in order to expose members to a more diverse group of individuals all striving for the same cause. Divisions are led by Lieutenant Governors (LTG), and for 2012-2013, Magic Kingdom is under the leadership of Stephanie Nguyen. IP Lieutenant Governor's Message: UCI Circle K is undoubtedly the best Circle K out there and possibly even the best club ever out there. In the past year, we surpassed all of the Circle K clubs on the international level to be the largest Circle K in the world! How awesome would it be to say that you're part of one of the largest community service organizations and in the biggest club of them all? Now, why would so many people join Circle K? One, it's a good feeling to help out other people in your community and meet new people. Two, we're spirited! As long as you're willing to let loose and break out of your box a little bit, this will be the best experience of your college career, EVER. Three, and most importantly, the PEOPLE. Not only will you make college-career-long, but possibly life-long friends you will always feel like you're part of a family in Circle K. You will meet Circle K'ers and make friends from schools you wouldn't have ever expected to make if you hadn't at events like CKI South, Fall Training Conference and District Convention. Four, this is YOUR club. You can be a leader in many ways, make an impact and leave your mark on your community and your school every single day. Lead a cheer, bring a new service project to our attention, head a committee, or be a part of our board. I could go on and on about how you can experience the three tenets of Circle K: Service, Leadership and Fellowship, but you will never know if you don't try it for yourself. But honestly while we're originally in it for the service, you'll realize it's more than just a club... it becomes your family. "Come for the service and stay for the friends."
Multiple divisions comprise a district. Districts are led by a District Governor (DG), who heads a District Board (which lieutenant governors are part of). Our 2012-2013 District Governor is Jonathan Cao-Nguyen. CLICK HERE to learn more about Circle K International. Circle K International began as a fraternity in 1936 by Jay N. Emerson at Washington State University. The fraternity was called “Kappa Iota Phi” and it formed as an opportunity for Kiwanians to give scholarships to young men and provide opportunities for service, leadership, and fellowship. In 1947, the first CKI club was chartered at Carthage College, Illinois and it was changed from a fraternity into a club. In 1955, the Circle K International Constitution and Bylaws were adopted by 168 clubs in the United States and Canada creating Circle K International as it is today. In 1973, Circle K International became the first co-ed organization in the Kiwanis Familiy. Circle K is part of the Kiwanis Family, which includes community service groups at multiple levels of education and more. Below is a list of other community service organizations, that are also supported by Kiwanis International:
