What: An auction in which members will offer their volunteering services to their buyers. For example, a buyer can buy a Circle K member who offers to wash cars, so the buyer's car can be washed. All proceeds will be going towards one of our DFIs: Not for Sale.

2012 MR. CKI

What: We will be holding our second annual Mr. CKI Pageant, which is our district fundraising event to raise money for UNICEF: the Eliminate Project. This pageant will not be the normal beauty pageant, but a silly rendition of all male candidates that will be taking part in a “question section”, a “future career section”, a “talent section”, and a "formal attire section". If you do not have a real talent, no worries! You can create a talent and make it funny.

We are asking for any male Circle K members that would be interested in being a candidate for this event to please fill out THIS APPLICATION and turn it in to UCI CKI by Wednesday, January 11, 2012!

Due to late approval of other divisions, late entries from clubs outside of the Magic Kingdom Division are accepted right now BUT SPOTS ARE LIMITED SO PLEASE SEND APPLICATIONS ASAP IF INTERESTED TO SARAH MARTIN, OUR FUNDRAISING CHAIR!!!

K-Family Events

Kiwanis One Day of Service

What: Kiwanis One Day of Service is an service project that take place in April where we work with other branch of the K-Family. We will be removing invasive species in our local canyons, it is a very scenic place so bring your cameras! There will be an after social at the event site, food will be provided. There is a limited amount of spots available, so sign up ASAP!

Please wear/bring:
1. Long pants
2. Layers of clothing for changing weather
3. Close-toed shoes
4. A water bottle
5. A hat and sunscreen are strongly recommended

For all participants, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS WAIVER FORM!!!

Directions: 5 Fwy to Alicia exit, then left on Alicia then right on Santa Margarita Pkwy then: right on Plano Trabuco Road (at the end of SM Pkwy); left on Dove Canyon Drive to Dove Canyon Security Gate (visitor's entrance) - tell security guard you're going to Starr Ranch. Stay on Dove Canyon Drive, down hill, up hill to left on Grey Rock Road then second right on our access road (just after our 3 white mailboxes). Stay on our main single lane road. Continue past the Sanctuary Office and proceed across a wooden bridge to the parking area by a wooden fence.

Key to College

What: An event packed with workshops and a panel section catered specifically towards high school seniors and other students interested in attending UCI, college admissions, and college life. Come out to set-up at 4:30pm at the flags! We will be moving to SSPA around 5:15pm to start the event!

Tennis Tournament

What: We will be hosting a "Tennis" Tournament for Magic Kingdom and Kiwanis family. Since we are limited on time, the game that we will be playing is a 6-person, doubles-style, rotation game called "Doo-dah".

Registration will be at 10 AM and there will be time for warm up, and team forming. Each round will be 5 minutes long and the amount of rounds will be depending on how many teams there are. There will be a final round where the winner is selected and after, LUNCH WILL BE SERVED!

Registration costs will be $4 per player and $3 per spectator. Money will be for lunch and the rest of the money will be donated.

Orientations

What: In the beginning of the school year, we host two orientations to recruit new members and retain old members. During the orientations we present a quick overview of what Circle K is and the benefits of joining Circle K. There are also some fun activites planned for everyone to enjoy and have the chance to mingle and know each other. This is also the time for the presentation of our amazing orientation video and to learn about the upcoming events of the school year! Afterwards join us at our social to meet the board members one on one!

Operation Sweet Dreams

What: In the spirit of our DSI we will be collaborating with UCI's Best Buddies, an international organization who's mission is to create long-lasting friendships and opportunites for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD); and Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, to organize an amazing fun-filled week!

We are still in the planning stages so if you are interested in helping out, come to our committee meetings or contact us!!! Our subcommittees are:

  • Entertainment: in charge of contacting groups/organizations for dancing, singing, etc. performers
  • Arts and Crafts: creating innovative and easy activities
  • Donations: in charge of getting places to get donations from food and refreshments
  • Publicity: flyering, tabling, promoting it to campus, making a promo video, advertising it to other Circle Ks in our division

What: For 6 wonderful hours, we will have the whole place to ourselves with UNLIMITED laser tagging, two huge party rooms that we can use to our discretion, and of course, bonding time with fellow Circle K members! Also, to kick off the new Circle K year, UCI Circle K is hosting a Laser Tag Overnighter at Laser Quest in Fullerton! Snacks/food will also be provided to fuel your energy all night long!

If you get burnt out from all that laser tag, there will be two party rooms you can just chill and relax in (hopefully one with a game system if we can get it) so bring your blankets!

Cost: $37 per person. ($2 will go to buying food)
All payments should be in by Tuesday, APRIL 17th!

Grunion Run Social

What: A summer social in which Circle K members gathered late in the evening during a full moon and traveled to Seal Beach to watch little silver fishes flip flop their way onto the shore. The challenge was to find and catch the fishes and during the searches, great bonding time was created!!!

February DCM

What: A monthly meeting in which all clubs in the Magic Kingdom Division comes together to share their upcoming and past service, fundraising and social events! For this month, we will be hosting our DCM along with OCC's Basketball Tournament! the DCM will begin at 4-5pm.

All Profits will go to our District Fundraising Initiative: Not For Sale!!!

Registration:

-$30 per team
-$5 per alternate
-$5 for regular admission (family and friends are encourage to come!)
-All registrants must sign all 4 waivers!
Teams:
-1 team will consist of 4 players and MUST have 2 boys & 2 girls
-There will be two alternates, one boy and one girl, for each team
Game Rules:
-Half court games (4 vs. 4)
-Teams are set to play by the rules of Round Robin
-All rounds will consist of 5 minutes of play time
-All baskets scored will be counted as one point
-Call your own foul
-Loser takes out
-No free throws involved
-Each game won by a team will count as point for advancement in the tournament bracket
-If a game comes down to a tie, there is no point awarded to either teams
-There will be semi-finals and finals after Half-Time
-The first team to score 11 baskets in the Final Four game will be determined as the winner
-There are no ties or overtime
-The top four teams will earn a banner patch for their school
Food
-Each person who registers and attends will receive 1-2 slices of pizza and water during Half-Time
-We will be selling boba drinks for $3
Awards
-1st place will be given a banner patch + awesome prizes!
-2nd, 3rd, and 4th place will each be given a CKI banner patch
There will be a free throw contest + raffles!

Magic Kingdom Park Clean-Up

Go West 2011/ Rose Float Decoration

What: Pasadena City College will be hosting Go West again this year!!! We will be decorating the rose floats, working with various service organizations, broom balling at the Pasadena Ice Skating Rink and there will be food provided at the event!

Disneyland Half-Marathon

What: This year, UCI Circle K joined other Circle K's in our Magic Kingdom Divison to volunteer at the annual Disney Half-Marathon at 3 in the morning. As volunteers we passed out water and powerade sports drinks to the amazing runners and cheered on the runners until they reached the finish line. In the end, we recieved a free breakfast and Disneyland ticket for our services!!!

Magic Kingdom OC Food Bank

What: Our first 2011-2012 Magic Kingdom Divisonal Service Project was held at the OC Food Bank where Circle Ker's banded together to create food boxes for low-income families and senior citizens. Some of our many tasks are: building food boxes, being a part of the assembly line to pack in food, collecting plastic wrap and other trash in the way of other volunteers and breaking down unused boxes. In the end, it is always rewarding to hear how much boxes we made and how much families we have helped.

Since Disneyland is just down the street and it's set up for the Christmas season, we could also have a stroll in Downtown Disney for a bit too! Hope to see you guys there!

KIWINS District Convention

What:As many of you know, KIWINS District Convention is coming up very soon (April 20th-22nd). We need as many people as we can to SAA!

Duties of SAA:
(Here is the list of duties that I have been told thus far)
Monitor traffic flow in the hallways in between workshops
Monitoring wristbands
Making sure people don't leave during the workshops

Remember: We, as SAA's, are not here to ditch our duties and hang out with our friends who may be in KIWINS. We are here as Circle K'ers to monitor this event.
We will have a complete list of tasks for the SAA's when they sign up for their shift.

District Large Scale Service Project South (DLSSP South)


What: The largest service project in Southern California, bringing in usually more than 200 Circle K members, in which all southern schools in the CNH district come together to volunteer 6-8 hours of their day for one organization of our choice. Hosted by the District Service Committee and our District Service Chair, Ally Bogan, we will be making a huge impact in the Riverside community by helping Operation Safehouse, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping teens who are struggling with growing up and need a safe environment. Operation Safehouse provides emergency and long-term shelters as well as interventions and outreach services to runaways, homeless, exploited, and other youth in crisis.

One of their facilities needs renovation to provide a safe environment for these teens! As amazing Circle K members, we will be gardening, painting, and restoring this facility. Operation Safehouse also has programs which aim to fight human trafficking; this is the same focus as our District Fundraising Initiative, Not for Sale!

Fall Training Conference (FTC)

What: An annual weekend trip with the entire Cal-Nev-Ha District to take part in service, leadership, and fellowship together creating an unforgettable experience filled with skit competitions between clubs, workshops, on-site service projects and fundraisers, club t-shirt fashion show, new members initiation, talent acts, icebreakers, and dances!

Crazy Kompetitions for Infants South (CKI South)


What: This is where Circle K puts the FUN in Fundraising! Every year, schools from all over Southern California come together compete in an assortment of CRAZY team relays. All proceeds go to the Pedtriatric Trauma Program (PTP), one of Circle K's District Fundraising Initiatives (DFI). PTP's goal is to create educational and training programs for pediatric trauma and injury prevention.

What: An annual Ca-Nev-Ha District in which, Kiwanis members invites all members of the Kiwanis family to join them at their "Mid Year Training Conference", for a fun-filled weekend of service and fellowship. Circle K members from the District K-family and Service Committees, help Kiwanis organize workshops, a service project, and socials for everyone to enjoy.
