Global Medical Brigades is an international network of more than 50 university clubs and volunteer organizations that provide communities in developing nations with sustainable health care solutions.  Our current emphasis is in Honduras, where nearly 1,000 GMB volunteers travel annually to deliver services to our 40 communities.  In 2007, GMB volunteers provided aid to nearly 40,000 patients in low-income villages with limited to no access to medicine otherwise.

2. The Intelis Fundraising Site is now up, please register and start collecting donations for your account and family members. $650 needs to be credited onto this account before we leave in June.

3. Meeting notes are now updated onto the "News" section of the website, in case you missed the meeting.


4. Lastly, a list of supplies that we are looking to collect has been posted. Keep in mind we are not limited to this list and can utilize almost any types of medicine you can gather.

Students last year collected over $10,000 worth of retail medicine and treated 1,000 Honduran villagers in Nuevo Paraiso. These medications were repackaged for individual families to receive.

WELCOME

Welcome to the UCI Global Medical Brigades Website! We are a group of student volunteers who spend the year collecting medicine, training students on the basic tenants of medical care, and recruiting physicians and other medical professionals to join us on a week-long brigade to poverty-stricken areas of Honduras, Central America.

Our 4th Brigade is scheduled for June 13-June 19, 2010. To join the club, please follow the steps below (seniors will not miss graduation).

CURRENT & NEW MEMBERS, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING TO JOIN:

1. Register at http://www.empowered.org/ (click "join a brigade" and pick "UC Irvine June 2011 GMB")

2. Pay your $250 non-refundable flight deposit at http://www.empowered.org/ by clicking "give now" and donating to yourself. DO NOT pay your $35 club dues here. In country cost for trip is $750 and airfare is about $700.

3. Pay your $35 club dues for the year via check ONLY made out to
"Global Medical Brigades"

4. Attend General Club Meetings:

(1) Attend Club meetings to fill out STAFF PRO forms in order to start fundraising for club and trip to Honduras.

5. Attend Fundraisers:

(1) Please sign up for Staffing events in order to start fundraising.

2. Email ucigmb@gmail.com with the following application filled out. Also include your name (as it appears on your passport), your primary email, cell phone, major and year in the body of your message.

3. Please let us know which committee you would like to be on (Medical Professionals, Fundraising, Supplies) and forward us any relevant information (medical contacts, fundraising ideas, etc.)

4. Pay $35 club dues for the year via CHECK ONLY made out "Global Medical Brigades".

5. One StaffPro fundraising event is required per quarter.

6. Two minor fundraising events and group/committee club participation required.

**All of our fundraising and club dues go towards the purchase of medication to bring on our Medical Mission.**

YOU ARE ONLY ADDED TO THE ROSTER IF YOU HAVE PAID YOUR CLUB DUES.

THE DEADLINE FOR THE FINAL ROSTER IS END OF FALL QUARTER (December, 2010).

ABOUT THE UCI GLOBAL MEDICAL BRIGADES

Last year for the group's initial mission, we were able to gather 21 student-volunteers from UCI along with two wonderful nurses and a physician from various areas. Altogether the group saw, helped treat, and provided sustainable healthcare for over 1,000 patients. This could not have been done without the help of the UCI Student Health Center, Living Hope Clinical Foundation, our wonderful students-volunteers, and the steadfast leaders.

The UC Irvine GMB group takes pride in being able to help provide this wonderful opportunity to students. The group offers a truly unique, educational, and fulfilling opportunity to fellow undergraduates. We strive to provide nurturing and an encouraging environment to make newer members feel welcome as we seek to help bring imporvements to the quality of life for those that we are serving.
