Welcome to iMed! Our name stands for "international medicine, education, and development" and we are the UC Irvine chapter of a national organization, the Foundation for the International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC). Our mission is to increase medical care access and to prevent diseases for underserved and underprivileged children around the world.

We volunteer because we care!

To achieve our mission, we pursue three projects: the Global Action Project, the Orphanage Project, and the HealthSmart Project. This year, for our Global Action Project, we volunteered abroad during spring break in the impoverished community of Alajuelita, Costa Rica. We helped increase health care access for the children of poor Costa Rican families and Nicaraguan refugees by volunteering in a free clinic, where we triaged, sorted medications, and rendered other useful services. For our Orphanage Project, we volunteered abroad in orphanages in Mexico to help children prevent diseases by teaching them basic hygiene skills. Because the children don't have a strong social foundation to gain these skills or to grow, the personal attention strengthens them immensely. Through our HealthSmart Project, we take action locally. We host health fairs at elementary schools in the underserved community of Santa Ana, CA so that children can learn the consequences of poor lifestyle choices. This year, our volunteers gave children tools to make better health decisions, so that they can later achieve healthier, brighter futures.

Let's do something meaningful!

Let's give back!

Regardless of your major, whether you're in economics, biology, or somewhere in between, you can do this too! You can improve children's futures! Just care. Volunteer because you care, because you want to make a difference! Our vision is for iMed to be a catalyst that will help children achieve healthier and brighter futures by showing them the consequences of poor lifestyle choices and ways to live healthily. We want to make bounds in serving others by helping to prevent diseases. This is why we need amazing people like you! Get out, do good! Be part this, be part of iMed! Join us fall quarter, 2008; look for our iMed globe logo. It will be electric!

We'll look forward to seeing you!
