Calcium Chapter Orange County, CA  NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS *11/11/09 - The latest issue of our national newsletter, The Iotan, has been released. This issue highlights our chapter, check it out by clicking the link above. *11/03/09 - Our website now has a functioning photo album site. *10/23/09 - This year our chapter council has initiated the reinstatement of professional development programs, including informal lunches with various professional female chemists. In addition, we are looking to expand our undergraduate and professional member base. If interested, please contact us. Recent Events October 23, 2009 - Annual UC Irvine chemistry department bonfire at Corona del Mar (sponsored by Iota Sigma Pi, Calcium Chapter) Thank you to everyone who showed up! The bonfire was a great success this year, and a lot of people showed up. October 21, 2009 - Ask-a-Scientist Night at San Joaquin Middle School (sponsored by the Irvine School DIstrict) Thank you to all the volunteers that showed up. The children and their parents are always appreciative at this event. October 16, 2009 - Calcium Chapter pizza lunch meeting for members and prospectives at UC Irvine, Natural Sciences 1, room 4114 (sponsored by Iota Sigma Pi, Calcium Chapter) Thank you to our activities coordinators Hanna, Florrie, and Jess for organizing the meeting! October 11, 2009 - Outreach Event, National Chemistry Week at the Santa Ana Zoo (sponsored by the Orange County Section of the Americal Chemical Society) Thank you to all the volunteers that showed up! Over 500 children were at the zoo that day to partake in a variety of chemistry demonstrations put on by over 20 local chemistry organizations. The day was a huge success and we touched a lot of lives! We would especially like to thank two of our chapter members; Carol Grimes organized the entire event while Kay (outreach coordinator) organized our chapter's outreach booth. |
