Benefits of Membership:

Award Opportunities
-Iota Sigma Pi offers several awards to its members at the national level
-Awards are available for both student and professional members

Professional Development

-We invite professional women in the chemical sciences to meet with our local chapter members and give seminars
-We have casual luncheons with professional members to answer questions about what it's like to be a professional female in chemistry (both industrial and academic)

Outreach Opportunities
-We volunteer through outreach with local organizations and events
-Our outreach mission involves:
    1) Bringing science demonstrations to underprivileged children
    2) Getting young women excited about science at an early age
    3) Exposing young women to strong female role models

Social Interaction
-Chances to interact with a group of successful female chemists
-Meeting and networking with women in a variety of chemically related fields
-Talking with others who share the same professional concerns



Criteria for Membership:

Undergraduate Students
-Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university that offers a B.A. or B.S. in chemistry or a closely related science
-Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)
-Have completed at least 9 quarters (6 semesters) of chemistry with a chemistry GPA of at least 3.0 -OR- at least 6 quarters (4 semesters) of chemistry with a chemistry GPA of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale)

Graduate Students
-Must be enrolled in a graduate program studying chemistry or an allied science
-Have completed at least 14 quarter units (9 semester units) of study
-Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and are not on probation

Professional Applicants
-Must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or an allied science -OR-
-Have a bachelors or masters degree in chemistry (or an allied science) with a GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or at least 3 years of employment in a chemically related field -OR-
-Have a bachelors or masters degree in a related field with at least 5 years of employment in a chemically related field




Application Information:

The Calcium Chapter is based at UC Irvine, but we accept applications from prospective members throughout Southern California.  We hold our annual initiation ceremony every Spring on the UC Irvine campus.

Student Applicants:
-TYPED (no handwritten forms will be accepted) application form (Word, PDF)
-Submit a copy of your unofficial transcript
-One year's membership dues ($15) and a one-time initiation fee ($25) made out to Iota Sigma Pi (most of the fees come back directly to support our local chapter)

Professional Applicants:
-TYPED (no handwritten forms will be accepted) application form (Word, PDF)
-Submit your CV
-One year's membershup dues ($50) and a one-time initiation fee ($25) made out to Iota Sigma Pi (most of the fees come back directly to support our local chapter)
