WANT TO BE A Mentor? Orange County On Track

Orange County On Track organization has been helping the underserved communities for over a decade. Orange County On Track has extensive experience in the fields of violence and drug prevention, mentoring, youth leadership development, and community collaboration.

On Track at UCI is a new club that strives to create a safer and more companionate society by providing hope, creating opportunities, and promoting non-violence and respect for people of all cultures. Specifically through our mentoring of children program, we provide mentors for children in underserved areas with one or more parents who are incarcerated.
Recently, in an attempt to create a better awareness of the educational opportunities for those children, we have embarked on a mission to throw a camp at UCI, promoting secondary education. The main goal of this camp is to create curiosity and an appreciation for higher education. We feel that we can achieve these goals by first bringing them to a college campus to give them a first hand experience of college life. Here, they will experience different activities in the areas of astrology, physics, humanities, biological sciences, and social sciences to stimulate their interests. This camp will also take the children away from the streets for that period of time, help them create networks and lasting friendships with each other, and will ultimately help them realize that college is within their reach.
The camp will have facilities and accommodations for 50 children participating in the On Track program, along with 10 camp supervisors. Events planned for the camp consist of astrology night, police/fire department demos, physics and chemistry demonstrations, tours through research facilities and campus, Olympic day, cultural show put on by participating UCI clubs, and one recreational (fun) outing.
