How do I change the look of my Drupal site?
There are many parts of your Drupal site that can be edited to change the appearance of your site. The three main parts are the menu, navigation area, and the theme.
Menus
Menus control the navigation on your page from page to page. This allows you to set links to pages for your mailing lists, frequently asked questions, and calenders.
- The main menu section controls all different types of menus. Their descriptions are displayed.
- The navigation (be careful there are two navigation menus, one for admins and one for website visitors) menu controls the links on the left hand side of the website. You are able to add, remove, edit, and change these links in any way you see fit.
The primary links menu is similar to the above navigation menu but holds the primary links at the top of the website that are obvious to all visitors. Like the navigation menu you are able to add, remove, edit, and change these links in any way you see fit.
Themes
- The majority of the way your site looks is controlled by your drupal theme. The way Drupal has been setup at CIS campus organizations do not have the ability to install their own themes. This is done to protect the integrity of the server and prevent excess and potentially harmful themes from being installed. However, if organizations or clubs find a drupal theme they would like to install they may simply email us at spirit@uci.edu with the theme information and after reviewing it we will install it if it is accepted.
- To change your current theme select the theme option on your Admin navigation menu:
- By default CIS has the website to use the "sky" theme as a default theme. However a simple of change of theme changes the look of the website dramatically without changing the content. For example this is the same website using the "Moleskine" theme.
Notes
There are two sets of themes. One is the default that most users will see when not logged into the website. The second theme is called the "administrative theme" which is the theme the administrator uses. It is easiest to navigate when both themes are the same.
