Uploading files and your website
Configuring your FTP client
- The first step is to properly configure your FTP client to connect to the CORE FTP server. Guides on how to do this are available for Core FTP, Fetch, and FileZilla.
Uploading files and your website
- For this tutorial we will be uploading a sample website for an organization called "myco" short for "my campus organization"
- After connecting you should have a folder labeled "sites" in your organization's directory as shown below.
- We will be uploading this simple website shown below. To learn more on how to create your own websites please visit our other tutorials on Dreamweaver and Beginner's HTML.
- After creating your website you should upload it from your local computer to the FTP server in your sites directory
- Your site should be immediately viewable at the following address http://clubs.uci.edu/<your organization's name>/index.html
- Example: The website above links to http://clubs.uci.edu/myco/index.html
Tips
- Any files you upload into the sites folder will be visible to the internet. Using your CIS account you can host pictures, documents, movies, and other files.
- CIS accounts can store up to one gigabyte of data.
