Greetings Fencers and Fencers-to-be! I’m Laelia Nguyen, one of your presidents for the 2017-2018 school year. If you’re reading this, chances are you’re looking to throw down on the strip with a sword in hand, in which case you’re in the right place! We welcome people of all levels, beginners and experienced fencers alike. We have undergraduates, graduates, and faculty in our ranks. We offer epee, foil, and sabre at our club, as well as many opportunities to compete, learn from coaches, and hang out at social events!
There are many ways to get in contact with us. You can reach us by email at email@example.com. You can also join our Facebook page and be up-to-date on competitions and practices. We’ll be at the Anteater Involvement Fair on Monday, September 25 from 11-4pm in Aldrich Park where you can meet our officers and ask them questions about the club and fencing in general. You can also find us at Late Night at the ARC doing demos from 9:45-10:05pm in the Main Gym (the basketball courts) and also at 10:30-11:25pm in the Training Zone (a room on the second floor) if you’d like to see us in action.
Our practices begin Week 1, October 4 at 8:30 pm in the Activity Annex, and continue every week of the quarter on Wednesdays from 8:30 pm -11 pm and Fridays from 7 pm – 11 pm. All you need to bring are clothes and shoes that you’re comfortable working out in. We’ll provide everything else. Club dues are $50 per quarter and are to be paid by the start of Week 4.
See you soon!
In preparation for the new year, the officers have ratified an amendment to the club constitution removing the office of the vice presidency and replacing the presidency with two overlapping co-presidencies, one whose term begins in June and one whose term begins in March. Laelia Nguyen, elected president for this year, stays on as the June-term president, while Benjamin Leider, elected vice president for this year, stays on as the March-term president (outgoing March 2018).
Practice is canceled from July 8 to July 15 as the adult supervision (so to speak) will be out of town. Practice will resume on July 20, the Wednesday of the week after next. There should be no further hiatuses from July 20 through the end of the summer.
The Fencing Club is currently meeting for summer practice on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-10 pm in the ARC Activity Annex. If you’re new to fencing, drop by and check us out! If you’re a current fencer in the area over the summer, come and fence–we’re still here!
Our practice is cancelled on Friday, May 5th, due to the Club Sports banquet. If you are a member of the club, please check your email and RSVP for the banquet. If you are not a member yet, please don’t show up on that day because nobody will be around.
A Special Election was held on Friday, April 8. Congratulations to Ryan Sivoraphonh, who was elected to the office of Secretary, and Jeremy Pantig, who was elected to the office of Armorer.
Congratulations to the new officers-elect! The election was held on Friday, March 4, and the results are as follows:
President-elect: Laelia Nguyen
Vice President-elect: Benjamin Leider
Treasurer-elect: Vanchannida Sar
Armorer-elect: Junyeob Lee
Hello and welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their breaks.
We have practice starting this week at our normal times: Wednesday 1/6 at 8:30pm and Friday 1/8 at 7pm. If you’ve never fenced before, worry not! New fencers are always welcome, so feel free to drop by the Activity Annex and check us out.
This quarter we have two tournaments. The first one is on Saturday, February 6th, at UCSD. The second one is on Saturday, February 20th, at CalTech. If you’re interested in competing, be sure to save those dates. We’ll also have more announcements about social events and whatnot later in the quarter, so join our Facebook group and come to practice for the most up to date information.
See you Wednesday!
Congratulations to Laelia Nguyen who was elected Secretary at our special election last Wednesday.
